Battery On-Site Spares (B.O.S.S.)
Battery On-Site Spare (B.O.S.S.) cabinets store and charge spare batteries on-site for emergency use. Having a spare battery on-site allows for quick replacement of a failed or failing battery, cutting mean time to repair.
B.O.S.S. cabinets can fit several types of batteries in one cabinet and the charger keeps the batteries fully charged and allows for immediate replacement. If one of the batteries were needed, replacing the B.O.S.S. battery can be less expensive, if you eliminate rush shipping and immediate replacement isn’t as high a priority.
Spare Parts Kits
Spare parts kits for three-phase Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs) are valuable options for data centers. These kits maintain a certain amount of parts on-site that can reduce downtime dramatically.
If a part fails on UPS and is under contract, Johnston Technologies will begin the service processes in place to diagnose the cause of the failure. Once discovered, the replacement process begins. If a customer has a spare parts kit we can begin this replacement process right away, reducing the Mean Time to Repair (MTTR). If the customer does not have a spare parts kit, the part must be ordered and shipped to the location before the replacement process can conclude.
We like to equate spare parts kits to spare tires on a car. If the car were to blow a tire on the side of the road but had a spare tire in the trunk, then the replacement of the blown tire can begin immediately. If the car did not have a spare tire, then a service company would have to be called and bring an extra tire to begin the replacement process. Naturally, not having a spare tire in the trunk would result in more time before repair.
The spare parts kits are an option on most of our three-phase UPS products. They also are available in three to four sizes, depending on the UPS. These sizes protect a certain percentage of non-shelf life parts that begin to fail on a UPS over time.
